NAJIA EL ABBADI


Prof. Najia El Abbadi is the first female neurosurgeon in Morocco. She is currently Professor and Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Cheikh Zaid Hospital.

She is a member of many pedagogic and research committees in Morocco and abroad. Her implication in the neurosurgical community has led her to many prestigious responsibilities, such as the President of the Moroccan society of Neurosurgery,

Treasurer elect of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS), President Elect 2018 of the Pan Arab Society of Neurosurgery, Chairman of the WFNS women in neurosurgery committee, and Founder & President of The Mediterranean Association of Neurological Surgeons (2015-2016).

Moreover, she has participated in the humanitarian missions organized by the “French chain of the hope” since 2004 in the Cambodia and since 2006 in Congo at the rate of two missions a year, and many others in Morocco and Africa.

KEE PARK


Dr. Park obtained his medical degree from the Rutgers University in New Jersey and then trained in neurosurgery at the Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is affiliated with the Program in Global Surgery and Social Change at Harvard Medical School as the Paul Farmer Global Surgery Scholar.


In 2013, he volunteered with the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies and the Foundation for International Education in Neurological surgery to support Cambodian neurosurgeons. Prior to Cambodia, he was the Director of Spine Surgery at the Myungsung Christian Medical Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (2009 to 2013).


He serves as a member of the Advisory Committee for the Foundation of the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies.

WALT JOHNSON


Dr. Walter Johnson received his medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine, California and practiced as a neurosurgeon in Loma Linda, California.


Currently, Dr. Johnson is Head of the Global Initiative on Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC) Program at the World Health Organization (WHO) in Geneva, Switzerland, coordinating Global Surgery work at the WHO.

The WHO Global Initiative for Emergency and Essential Surgical Care (GIEESC) is a global forum that convenes multidisciplinary stakeholders representing health professionals, public health experts, health authorities and local and international organizations.

Established in December 2005, the GIEESC has grown to include over 2300 members from 140 countries which collaborates to share knowledge, advise policy formation and develop educational resources to reduce the burden of death and disability from conditions that could be treated through surgery.

AHMED RHASSANE EL ADIB


Dr, Ahmed Rhassane EL ADIB is Professor of Anesthesia, Critical Care Medicine and

Emergency Medicine in the Marrakesh medical school at Cadi Ayyad University.

He is also head of Anesthesia and Critical Care Department in Gynaecology-Obstetrics at the Mother and Child Hospital/Mohammed VI University Hospital, Marrakesh, and President of the Moroccan Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine (SMAR).


In addition to that, he has several responsibilities, such as Vice-President of the Moroccan Society of Medical Simulation (Morocco Sim), member of the Executive and SQP committees of the Pan Arab Federation of Societies of Anesthesia, intensive care and pain management (PAFSA), and member of the World Federation of Societies of Anesthesiologists (WFSA) Safety & Quality of Practice Committee.

MOHAMMED TARIQ KHAN


Prof. Mohammed Tariq Khan is Chair of the Alliance Healthcare (PVT), Professor & Head of the Department of Neurosurgery at Northwest General Hospital in Peshawar, Pakistan, and Chair of the Neurotrauma Committee at the World Federation of Societies of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). Moreover, Dr. Khan is convener of the Neurotrauma Committee in Pakistan and immediate Past President of the Pakistan Society of Neurosurgeons.


ALI KETTANI


Prof. Ali Kettani is a graduate of “Faculté de médecine et de pharmacie de Rabat” –Université Mohammed V. He is professor of Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the surgical ICU of Ibn Sina university hospital in Rabat. He is also the head of SAMU01 (the Rabat emergency medical service). He is currently leading a research programme at the National Center of Scientific and Technical Research on the impact of ultrasound on trauma patients' prognosis. In 201,7 he founded Winfocus Morocco, branch of Winfocus International, a society that promotes teaching of emergency ultrasound. Most recently, he has been elected Chairman of the 2018 Congress of the Moroccan Society of Anesthesia and Intensive Care (SMAR).

DOMINIQUE VERVOORT


Dominique Vervoort is co-Chair of InciSioN - International Student Surgical Network, Chair of the Global Surgery National Working Group - BeMSA Belgium, and a final year medical student at the Catholic University of Leuven in Belgium. Dominique is pursuing a global career in paediatric cardiac surgery, and is currently doing research on the global state of access to cardiac surgery. He has delivered lectures and workshops on Global Surgery and UHC in countries as diverse as Mexico, Tanzania, Romania, the UK and Japan, eager to learn from and help guide fellow future global surgeons, anaesthesiologists and obstetricians all around the world.

SARA VENTURINI


Sara Venturini is a final year medical student at the University of Leicester interested in medical education, research and surgery, especially with regards to global surgery initiatives. I intend to pursue a career in neurosurgery and continue to be involved in academic research and teaching. In particular I wish to continue being involved in global (neuro)surgery research, with a focus on the study of surgical system and global surgical provision. I am involved in peer mentoring activities, promoting research among students, and I have leadership roles in various student groups.

ALIYU NDAJIWO


Aliyu Ndajiwo is a recent medical graduate from Windsor University School of Medicine in the Caribbean. Aliyu developed and curates the Global Neurosurgery Social Media platform. He is also the founder and curator of SurgeryMatters. He's a member of the advocacy team of InciSioN - The International Student Surgical Network. Aliyu was part of 10 International medical students selected to collect the 2016 World Development Index WDI Surgical Indicators for the World Bank Group. He also participated in the collection of the Global Neurosurgery Capacity and Workforce Density data for the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS). Aliyu aspires to be an academic Neurosurgeon. He continues to use his social media platform to advocate for improved access to surgical care globally.

HAMPUS HOLMER


Dr. Hampus Holmer is a Swedish junior doctor and PhD student with interests spanning global and national health policy, health systems strengthening and clinical service delivery. A previous research associate in global surgery at Harvard Medical School and intern of the WHO Emergency and Essential Surgical Care Programme – where he developed the WHO Global Surgical Workforce Database – Hampus most recently served as seconded technical officer from King’s Sierra Leone Partnership to the World Health Organization in Sierra Leone. In that role, he led a team supporting the development of a national surgical plan for Sierra Leone. He is currently co-director of the WHO Collaborating Centre on Surgery and Public Health at Lund University, Sweden.

ISOBEL MARKS


Dr. Issy Marks is an academic F1 in North West London with a keen interest in global paediatric surgery. She previously worked as a paediatric surgical outcomes fellow at Massachusetts General Hospital, and a research associate with the Program for Global Surgery and Social Change at Boston Children’s Hospital. Issy coordinated the International Federation of Medical Students' Association (IFMSA's) Global Surgery Working Group for two years, and was a founding member and leader of InciSioN, the International Student Surgical Network, for which she now leads the board of trustees.


Issy has also worked as a policy officer for the G4 Alliance, delivering advocacy training at the World Health Assembly last year, and spent two months working as WHO policy officer at the UK Department of Health International Team. Issy strongly believes that global surgery will only be effective with full and equitable participation in research, advocacy and education from students and doctors from all countries, and has worked hard through InciSioN to create opportunities for students worldwide. She has worked on a number of paediatric surgical research projects in Kenya and Nicaragua.
