Empowering Global Surgery through
Education by InciSioN Global Education Team 2023

In the year 2023, medical students, surgical residents, and medical doctors around the world, came together in InciSioN’s Education International Team (IT), to deliver education -one of the main purposes in InciSioN. Education team aims to create opportunities for students, medical doctors, surgeons, and members, so they can learn more about Global Surgery. We intend to provide educational opportunities for all members of InciSioN, especially our National Working Groups (NWG). With the help of a great team, we were able to relight the goals of Education team in InciSioN through our projects.

Our vision is to provide instructions for our members and NWGs in order to have better impact on global surgery. To perfect our work, we have collaborated with other teams in IT. To better understand NWGs’ needs, a questionnaire was made by NWG team. We gathered a list of their demands and categorized them to improve the approach. Our goal is to offer different modalities and opportunities, in order to strengthen this network by planning to develop handbooks and saved sessions. We are planning a series of live sessions regarding this matter, to connect NWGs and IT with each other, in order to help with their progress.

In addition, to educate more doctors and students on global surgery, we are planning to build different methods, such as global surgery booklets and courses. Also, we have published infographics about global surgery in Instagram and Twitter with the help of our public relation on Global Surgery Day.

It is important for each member to learn about the history of InciSioN, in order to recognize its importance and goals, and to perform well. Incision has a remarkable history, and has built a strong network in a short time by its dedicated and passionate members. Our team has collected details of incidents in the past 10 years. Our purpose is to collect an oral history of InciSioN and provide booklets to our newcomers or potential partners.

I am happy that I have been able to be part of this team this year, and have worked with international colleagues to rekindle the work of InciSioN, thus having taken part in creating bigger impact.

Training Global Surgery Advocates: InciSioN's Three-Day Global Surgery Workshop

In 2018, InciSioN established and piloted its standardized three-day global surgery advocacy workshop aiming to equip participants with the needed knowledge and skills to advocate for global surgery and universal health coverage (UHC).

Through a 27-hour combination of traditional didactic lectures and interactive practical discussions and exercises, participants are trained to become well-versed in the theoretical background of global surgery, UHC, and health systems, and how to meaningfully and efficiently advocate for the cause in their countries and beyond.
