The working team behind InciSioN Global’s coordination of our international network.
The International Team is a selected, fixed-term working body that supports the coordination, mobilisation and resourcing of InciSioN’s global network. It is not a general membership programme and it is not the primary route for participating in grassroots global surgery activities.

The next general call for applications will recruit the 2027 International Team toward the end of the 2026 calendar year. Application details will be published through InciSioN Global’s official channels when the call opens.
International Team recruitment is not rolling. Prospective applicants should not expect appointment to the International Team outside the annual call for applications. If an exceptional vacancy arises during the year, InciSioN Global may approach eligible candidates retained from the relevant recruitment process or waitlist. Such vacancies do not constitute a new or continuously open application cycle.

We receive many enquiries from people who want to “join InciSioN.” InciSioN, however, is a network — and understanding the difference between our National Working Groups and the Global coordinating body will help you find the right place to get involved.
FOR MOST PEOPLE
National Working Groups
The NWGs are InciSioN. They form our national grassroots network and are the primary place where members participate in locally relevant global surgery work.
If you want to implement projects, organise activities, build national partnerships, respond to priorities in your country, develop initiatives or participate in grassroots global surgery, your NWG should usually be your first point of entry.
A substantial share of InciSioN Global’s capacity and resources is intentionally directed toward enabling NWGs and strengthening national action.
A SELECTED WORKING BODY
InciSioN Global
InciSioN Global exists to serve the network. The Global body coordinates across countries, mobilises opportunities and resources, facilitates shared infrastructure and collaboration, and connects grassroots priorities with international platforms.
The International Team works within that coordinating structure. Its purpose is not to replace work that can be led nationally, but to help the wider network function effectively and create value that can be shared across NWGs.
There is no general “Global membership” application. International Team members hold defined working appointments for a defined term.
THE ROLE OF GLOBAL
Coordinate. Mobilise. Facilitate.
Coordinate
Support alignment across the network, maintain shared systems and governance, connect teams across countries and help ensure that the international network can work together effectively.
Mobilise
Mobilise people, partnerships, expertise and opportunities across the network, helping connect NWGs and their priorities with resources and collaborators.
Facilitate
Develop and facilitate shared resources, education, research, advocacy opportunities, international representation and other infrastructure that can strengthen work across the network.
Connect & Represent
Create pathways between grassroots priorities and international spaces, while connecting members, NWGs and external partners across disciplines, regions and institutions.

ONE COHORT · ONE CALENDAR YEAR
Joining the International Team is a commitment.
The International Team is recruited through one general call for applications each year. Successful applicants are appointed to the following full calendar-year cohort and work within defined departments and roles under InciSioN Global’s leadership structure.
This is an active working appointment, not a membership title. Team members are expected to remain available, communicate reliably, manage their time and complete the responsibilities associated with their role throughout their term.
We understand that exams, clinical rotations, personal circumstances, health, travel and other commitments arise. When a team member needs time away, they are expected to request formal leave of office in advance whenever possible and receive approval through the appropriate internal process.
Repeated or prolonged unexplained inactivity, failure to fulfil responsibilities, or absence without following the appropriate leave process may result in removal from office and may affect eligibility for future appointments within InciSioN Global.

ELIGIBILITY
Who can apply?
The International Team is designed primarily for students, trainees, residents and early-career professionals with an interest and stake in global surgery. InciSioN is multidisciplinary: applicants may come from medicine, nursing, public health, allied health, biomedical engineering and other relevant backgrounds.
You do not need an active NWG in your country to apply to the International Team. Likewise, existing membership of an NWG is not a prerequisite for applying to a Global role.
Applicants should nevertheless consider whether the International Team is genuinely the right route for what they want to accomplish. If your main goal is direct implementation within your country, your NWG will generally offer the more appropriate environment.

2027 International Team
Applications will open toward the end of the 2026 calendar year.
There is no open general application outside the annual recruitment cycle. When the 2027 call opens, application information, available roles, eligibility requirements and deadlines will be published through InciSioN Global’s official channels.

International Team FAQs
Is the International Team how I become a member of InciSioN?
No. InciSioN Global does not operate a general Global membership programme. InciSioN’s grassroots membership and participation are primarily organised through its National Working Groups. The International Team is a selected working body that supports the Global coordination of that network.
I just want to get involved in global surgery. Where should I start?
For most people, start with your National Working Group. NWGs are where locally relevant projects, activities, partnerships and national priorities are developed and implemented. You can also participate in open InciSioN events, educational activities, calls, delegations and other opportunities when available without serving on the International Team.
Do I need an active National Working Group in my country to apply?
No. An active NWG is not required to apply for the International Team, and you do not need to be an existing NWG member. If there is an NWG in your country, however, we encourage you to understand and engage with your national network as well.
Can junior doctors and residents apply?
Yes. Students, trainees, residents and early-career professionals are welcome to apply. Applicants with demanding clinical or professional schedules should consider carefully whether they can maintain the consistent availability required for a year-long working appointment.
Can first-year or early-stage students apply?
Yes. Selection is not based simply on seniority. Early-stage students may bring strong motivation, new perspectives and significant capacity for growth. They should nevertheless be prepared for a steep learning curve and demonstrate the maturity, reliability and time commitment required by the role.
What if my professional background is not directly related to surgery?
Global surgery is multidisciplinary. Relevant applicants may come from medicine, nursing, public health, allied health, engineering and other fields. What matters is whether your background, skills and proposed contribution are relevant to the role for which you are applying and to InciSioN’s mission.
How should I choose my preferred teams?
Choose roles that genuinely interest you and where your skills, experience or willingness to learn can create value. Do not choose a role solely because you believe its title will be more advantageous for your career. The value of an International Team appointment comes from the work you contribute and what you learn through doing it.
What makes a strong application?
We value attention to detail, realistic time management, clear communication, relevant skills or demonstrated capacity to learn, and thoughtful ideas. Where applicants are asked to propose projects or initiatives, strong proposals should be specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound, and should recognise that effective work often requires collaboration across teams.
What happens if I become unavailable during my term?
Temporary unavailability is understandable. Team members who need time away are expected to communicate promptly and request formal leave of office through the applicable internal process. Approved leave allows responsibilities and team expectations to be managed appropriately. Unexplained or unmanaged inactivity is different and may lead to removal from the International Team and affect eligibility for future Global appointments.
Can I apply to the International Team at any time during the year?
No. General recruitment is conducted through one annual call for applications for the following calendar-year cohort. The International Team does not operate rolling recruitment, and applications submitted outside the formal call are not ordinarily considered.
Can I be appointed to the International Team part-way through the year?
Ordinarily, appointments are made through the annual recruitment process. If a vacancy arises during an active term, InciSioN Global may, where appropriate, approach eligible candidates retained from the relevant recruitment process or waitlist. This is an exceptional vacancy-management mechanism and should not be understood as a separate or rolling application route.
When will applications for the 2027 International Team open?
