Global Surgical Oncology Challenges:
From Diagnosis to Surgery
What stands between a cancer diagnosis and a safe operation?
Convened by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Public Health Education and Training at Imperial College London with InciSioN, this half-day session follows the patient pathway from cancer diagnosis through the operating theatre and recovery.
Participants will examine where that pathway breaks in different health systems and what is needed to ensure that people diagnosed with operable cancers can reach safe surgery in time.
Keynotes, pathway discussions and moderated panels explore the systems surrounding cancer surgery — including pathology, anaesthesia, workforce, rehabilitation, financing and coordinated care.
The meeting will contribute to a co-created Action Brief on Equitable Access to Cancer Surgery, translating the discussion into a practical advocacy and policy resource.

Integrative Design Meets Sustainable Surgical Systems
A global meeting built by the next generation of surgical leaders.
The International Global Surgery Symposium™ (IGSS) 2026 brought the global surgery community together in Kuala Lumpur around a central question: how can we design surgical systems that are not only innovative, but integrated, equitable, resilient and sustainable?
The theme, “Integrative Design Meets Sustainable Surgical Systems,” moved the conversation beyond individual technologies or facilities. Surgical care was approached as an interconnected ecosystem in which workforce, infrastructure, financing, supply chains, digital tools and community voices must work together.
Across three days, hands-on workshops, scientific presentations, debates, panels and multidisciplinary discussions explored surgical systems strengthening, trauma and emergency care, maternal and child health, surgical education and training, sustainability, innovation and care in resource-variable settings.
As the sixth edition of IGSS, the symposium continued a model in which students and trainees participate not simply as attendees, but as researchers, moderators, organisers and contributors alongside clinicians, educators, policymakers, advocates and global surgery partners.

The IGSS™ 2026 Scientific Forum showcased work spanning clinical and peri-operative surgery, global surgery and public health, policy and sustainable surgical systems, innovation, research, and surgical education — creating a platform for emerging researchers to present their work to an international audience.
