WHAT IS GLOBAL SURGERY ?

Global Surgery is defined as a fastgrowing "area of study, research, practice, and advocacy that seeks to improve health outcomes and achieve health equity for all people who need surgical and anaesthesia care, with a special emphasis on underserved populations and populations in crisis. It uses collaborative, cross-sectoral, and transnational approaches and is a synthesis of population-based strategies with individual surgical and anaesthesia care".

THIS TERMS' EDUCATIONAL PRIORITIES

In 2024/25, we are embarking on an exciting journey within InciSioN's Education International Team (IT), where education is our top priority. The Education team is absolutely thrilled to lead the way in creating numerous opportunities for students, doctors, surgeons, and all members to explore the dynamic world of Global Surgery.

Looking ahead, our goal is clear. We want to empower our members and NWGs to make a real difference in global surgery. We are teaming up with other IT teams to make it happen. By listening closely to what our NWGs need through surveys, we are now adjusting our strategies and expanding our offerings. That means we will be putting together helpful handbooks, hosting interesting webinars and workshops, and setting up live sessions where NWGs and IT can come together and connect.

But that is not all—this year, we are going the extra mile to educate even more medical professionals about global surgery. We are launching impactful projects like personalized global surgery booklets and fun courses. And on social media, we are sharing eye-catching infographics on platforms like Instagram and Twitter, all while using Global Surgery Day to spread the word.

We are also digging into InciSioN's past to understand where we have come from. By putting together an oral history, we are creating something special that can inspire newcomers as well as partners.

Through it all, teamwork is key. We believe that "Together we can achieve so much more." Each of us brings something unique, and by working together, we can tackle any challenge and make a real impact in global surgery education.

As we dive into the year ahead, we are delighted to work with our international friends to make InciSioN’s mission even stronger and more inclusive. Together, with our shared passion and teamwork, we are undoubtedly set to shape the future of global surgery education and make a difference.
